The Department of Florida Ladies Auxiliary won the National Award of Department of the Year
(awarded at National Convention August, 2012)
Welcome to Department of Florida AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary’s website. The AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary is a subordinate organization to the AMVETS. We are part of the AMVETS Family along with the Sons of AMVETS, the JR AMVETS, the Riders, the Sad Sacks and the Sackettes.
My theme this year is “Courage to Care”. I truly believe that it takes a lot of courage to help children that have lived in environments that no child should endure. To go out into our local communities and help our veterans, families and the homeless. I believe it takes courage to give support to many that need help.
My Presidents Project “St Judes Ranch for Children”. You can find information at https://stjudesranch.org. I’m really impressed with their CHILD FOCUS Progam. Child Focus provides opportunities for children in foster care to heal, grow, and maintain their sibling bonds during this difficult chapter in their lives. In southern Nevada, there are over 3,200 children living in the foster care system. Of those children, 45 percent are unable to be placed in foster care with their siblings. Once separated, the majority of these children are never reunited. In a collaboration designed to expand the reach of services available to siblings in foster care, St. Jude’s Ranch for Children acquired Child Focus in March of 2012. By joining forces, St. Jude’s Ranch for Children and Child Focus will create even greater opportunities to serve these children through expanded services, care, expertise and support.
All events and activities such as Camp To Belong, Gift of Giving and our Mother’s Day Tea event Moms Rock, as well as our monthly “Share and Discovery” programs, will continue and will reach even more brothers and sisters through this collaboration. Please support this worthwhile project. You may mail all donations to: Wanda McDermon, Executive Secretary, Dept. of Florida, 1302 Cherry Hills Rd NE Palm Bay Florida 32905. Make sure you earmark it “St. Judes Ranch FOCUS Program” and don’t forget to fill out and send your service report to your Child Welfare Service Officer.
I would like to remind you that your Department Officers are here to answer your questions and provide assistance to you so you can continue your service programs to the veterans and their community.
“Freedom isn’t free, always thank a Veteran”
Yours in Service,
Sheila Haywood, Department President

State and nation, associate ourselves for the following purposes: To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to safeguard the principles of freedom, liberty and justice for all; to promote the cause of peace and good will among nations; to maintain inviolate the freedom of our country; to preserve the fundamentals of democracy and Americanism; to perpetuate the friendship and associations of the American Veteran and to dedicate ourselves to the cause of mutual assistance…this by the grace of God.
WHO WE ARE………..
AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary is made up of women like you and me who have joined forces to accomplish many goals and projects. The primary focus of our service revolves around our relationship to an individual who has honorable served our country on military service.
Therefore, our membership consists of the wives, mothers, widows, daughters, step-daughters, granddaughters, grandmothers, and sisters of AMVETS and female veterans who have joined together, as an organization, to promote, support and assist our parent organization AMVETS in achieving their goals.
WHAT WE DO………
AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary is involved in many worthy causes that help the smallest child to the oldest adult. We have a very rewarding scholarship program that assist members as well as community members.
Service to the veteran and their family is a primary importance to our membership. We help by making financial contributions, visiting VA Medical Centers, volunteering in hospitals, providing gifts and parties, and participating in legislation that benefits the Veteran.
WHAT’S SPECIAL ABOUT US?
While accomplishing our task as AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary members we have the opportunity to meet other ladies who have a common bond. This bond makes an Auxiliary activity a worthwhile and rewarding occasion.
Besides doing our service work, we also enjoy hours of socialization with our auxiliary sisters. Social functions, dinners, parties, game nights, special events, and holiday events are all a part of unifying our membership.
Membership in AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary is an opportunity to meet wonderful people and to create heartwarming friendships that will last a life time.
BENEFITS TO YOU….please see National’s website www.amvetsaux.org for a current list.
